DRC works to achieve fairness and justice for people with disabilities through individual and impact litigation, state and federal policy and regulatory advocacy, and community education and training.
Office of Clients’ Rights Advocate (OCRA)
Disability Rights California has entered into a contract with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), State of California, to provide Clients’ Rights Advocacy services at each of the 21 regional centers located statewide. The Assistant Clients’ Rights Advocate (ACRA) position is funded under the contract with DDS.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Client’s Rights Advocate provides advocacy services to persons with developmental disabilities who are clients of regional centers and to persons who reside in state developmental centers and community facilities. The Client’s Rights Advocate position will be located at or near an office of each regional center. The Client’s Rights Advocate positions are funded under the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) contract.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises one (1) Assistant Clients’ Rights Advocate subordinate in the Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy (OCRA) department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the agency's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include to interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Master's degree (MA or MS) or Juris Doctor degree (JD) plus 1-2 years paid or volunteer experience
- Knowledge of the legal, civil and service rights of persons with developmental disabilities in California.
- Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons with disabilities.
- Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons from multi-ethnic communities.
