SUPREME COURT CHAMBERS ATTORNEY STAFF OF ASSOCIATE JUSTICE LEONDRA R. KRUGER $7,287 - $14,280 per month
The Supreme Court of California in San Francisco is accepting applications for a position as a Supreme Court Chambers Attorney to serve on the staff of Associate Justice Leondra R. Kruger. The position will become open on September 7, 2021. The level of appointment and starting salary will be commensurate with experience. Duties include assisting Justice Kruger in assessing petitions for review, drafting memoranda and opinions in cases assigned to her (including civil, criminal, and death penalty matters), and reviewing and critiquing memoranda and proposed opinions in cases assigned to other justices of the Supreme Court. These duties involve carefully and accurately reviewing appellate briefs, trial records, and other documents; thoroughly researching and analyzing existing law, and drafting clear and well-organized memoranda and opinions. A Supreme Court Chambers Attorney must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and expeditiously, work closely and collaboratively with the justice and other members of her staff, and work cooperatively with other members of the court’s staff.
Minimum qualifications are active California bar membership and the equivalent of two years of post-bar legal experience. Candidates should have strong academic backgrounds, excellent writing and analytical skills, and the ability to work well with others. Experience as a judicial staff attorney, law clerk, or appellate practitioner, emphasizing legal writing and analysis, is highly desirable. Background in criminal law and trial court litigation experience will also be considered.
