Santa Clara County Superior Court is looking for qualified attorneys to serve as temporary judges. In general, they need to have been California State Bar members for ten years and be in good standing. To serve, they need to complete three classes: (1) bench conduct and demeanor; (2) judicial ethics; and (3) substantive law (traffic, small claims, or classes related to civil, probate and family assignments). The substantive law classes can be taken on-line.
More information about serving as a temporary judge can be found on the court's website: http://www.scscourt.org/general_info/jo/temp_judges.shtml
There will be a bench conduct and demeanor class coming up on March 4, 2019. If you know anyone – a colleague, a friend, etc. -- who might be interested in serving as a temporary judge, this would be a good time to let them know about the Court’s need and interest in having more temporary judges.
